Mile 101 to 110 Warner Springs
Today was a nice walk from Barrel Springs to Warner Springs, which included a stop at the famous Eagle Rock.
The rock not surprisingly looks surprisingly like a bald eagle stand with its wings partially raised.
Another treat was the trail. It gave up the mountains for wide open fields and long grass. It was a peaceful and relaxing walk in the early morning.
I arrived at the Warner Springs Resource Center around 9:00 and quickly settled in. The community is friendly to hikers and has free internet, bucket showers and laundry, bathrooms, and charging stations. Basically a five star hotel to hikers.
I took my shower, the first in 6 days, did laundry and hitched with B&B to the post office to pick up my resupply package.
Everyone was grumbling about their resupply because they packed too much food, myself included. I was basically just guessing when I packed that box weeks ago. I spent the rest of the day trying to gorge myself on my excess food eating three packages of Poptarts. By the third one, I needed to add Skittles to get it down. I also ate ramen, peanut butter, twizlers, and someone else’s plantain chips which I dipped in salsa.
There was a cool mobile gear shop in an airstream trailer where I bought a buff to protect my face and neck when I don’t want to wear my straw hat.
It was fun hanging with everyone and resting my feet. I have a blister forming on the top of my right big toe thanks to my Brooks Cascadia 11.
We are all camped under a huge oak tree behind the resource center. It was nice to have a short and relaxed day. Tomorrow we plan to hike about 17 miles.
Peace out and good night.
Thx,so much for the pictures! So glad to know that EAGLE is there.Great.
Hahah I love your eagle picture so much!! Holy cow, your diet is truly wild. I just learned a whole bunch on how to care for blisters from the Wilderness First Aid class! They say to pop it at the bottom with a sterile needle so it doesn’t pop in your dirty sock. Then, they make two donuts out of moleskin and stick a blister-sized circle of second skin in the middle. Next, they put a layer of tape over the whole thing to keep it secure! Hopefully, that helps!!
Thanks, I will try that out. I have two cuts across my big toes from my shoe flexing. It is super hard to keep things clean out here. One is definitely infected…
Oh no!!! If you get a chance, they suggested pouring clean drinking water on cuts for 30 minutes before dressing them! I hope they heal quickly!!!!
Skittles and pop tarts is the hiker’s diet? I need to do more hiking…
